Canadian shoppers helped send sales tax revenues over $400 million U.S. for the first time according to officials in New York's Erie County. This is a staggering amount of tax dollars collected. What is worse it is attributed to Canadian shoppers.

Since 9/11 the economy of Niagara Falls has been seriously impacted by a decline in the number of Americans crossing the border. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, implemented in 2008 by the United States, has resulted in fewer Americans travelling to Niagara Falls.

The Chamber of Commerce Niagara Falls, Canada has enjoyed a busy first two months to the year. In January and February we welcomed more than 25 new members! We couldn't be more delighted to have such a dramatic growth surge. These 25 businesses believe in us and we believe in them. Our goal is simple we want to see business in Niagara Falls flourish.

We represent our members by providing networking opportunities. The Chamber of Commerce also represents our member's interests through lobby efforts and participating in meetings to learn how changes to government policy and/or regulations will impact them.

Why should I join the Chamber of Commerce?

This is a question I hear frequently. Some people I talk with think the Chamber of Commerce is a bank. Others think the Chamber of Commerce is a branch of the government or funded by the government in some way. Neither is correct. You'd also be surprised by the number of residents, not only of Niagara Falls but also of other communities with Chambers of Commerce, who think we exist to help them solve their current problem or crisis. For example, when inferior work or services are purchased residents frequently turn to us for help in solving the problem.

Membership in the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce has advantages. Consider this, we can and only will refer business to our members. How do we do that? Here are some examples. When enquiries are made in the Chamber office about where to get married, buy a new car, rent a car, pave a driveway, build a fence, where to eat, buy flowers, hold an event, or which hotel to stay in we only refer business to MEMBERS of our organization. Membership has advantages! We support our members through the referral process without exception. Visitors to our website have used our online membership directory more than 175,000 times to find the product or service they were looking for. If your business name isn't on our list of members you are missing the potential to increase your business.

Your Chamber of Commerce was represented at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting held in St. John's, Newfoundland. During the meeting we participated in Policy Debate sessions will set the course of advocacy and lobbying for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce for the coming year. More than 300 representatives of Chambers from right across the country converged on St. John's to discuss sixty-five Policy Resolutions. The resolutions ranged from tax law's to the need for a national Nuclear Energy Strategy. Everyone in attendance had the chance to listen, debate, refine, and ultimately vote on the acceptance or defeat of each policy. It was very democratic.
